Each year in early June Haskovo hosts this national festival
that revives to life the charm of the old Bulgarian town song - a real gem in our cultural heritage, and aims to seek, promote and preserve the best of this beloved genre.
Ari is the stage name of the legendary Asparuh Leshnikov, the most successful Bulgarian musician on the world musical stage. He is known in musical circles as "the Knight of the Head Fa." Born in Haskovo in the late 19th century Ari became famous throughout the world with his performances of many of the international popular hits. He brought out over 100 records and was awarded the "Cyril and Methodius" order.
The festival is a contest in which only amateur groups may participate, as well as chamber ensembles (duos, trios, quartets, etc.) and individual performers. It is obligatory to perform the songs in Bulgarian.
