Celebrations for the Day of Haskovo

For centuries, the days around the day of the Birth of Virgin Mary - 8th September,

are holidays for the city. With a resolution of the Municipal Council of the town of Haskovo, voted in 1993, the Holiday of the Birth of Blessed Virgin Mary is declared as The Day of Haskovo. The respect and esteem to the Mother of God as a protectress of the town, have inspired the construction of the Monument of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which towers above the town. The monument is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest in the world. The week around this date is the culmination of cultural events in the town which are expected with great interest, impatience and joy by citizens and visitors alike.
Celebrations for the Day of Haskovo become the center of numerous cultural, sports and children's events, formal and creative meetings, business talks, exhibitions and presentations of books, official opening of new sights. All events are interesting, substantial and presented with great respect to the audience.
Apart from the performances of folklore groups from Bulgaria and from abroad, vocal groups and musicians from different musical genres, the celebrations for the Day of Haskovo become the spotlight for the achievements of all ensembles, groups and clubs of the city, presenting their skills in the field of folklore, modern ballet singing and dancing.
